Summary: This 16 hour course is designed to provide First Aid training for those working in an outdoor environment where backup may be a while. If you work closer to civilisation, do look at our shorter 8 hour Outdoor Emergency First Aid course.

Day 1 of this course is also the Outdoor Emergency First Aid (8 hour) course and these two courses may be combined should there be a mix of staff needing 1 day or 2 days. The total number of learners cannot exceed 12 per course.

If you are looking for an Outdoor course as part of your Forest School qualification we also run a specific Forest School First Aid course that is more tailored to that environment.

Emergency First Aid at Work qualification – optional

For those learners working in an environment where there is a need to hold a Workplace First Aid Certificate, this can be incorporated into the syllabus and all attendees that need it will receive a Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate as well. There is an additional fee of £20 per student for this optional qualification.

This 4 Minutes Outdoor course is best for people working in the UK. If you need the First Aid skills for working abroad, or even some of the more remote areas of the UK, we recommend that you look elsewhere for a course focusing on Remote First Aid. This course is probably not for you.

This course is aligned with the Institute of Outdoor Learning’s Statement of Good Practice for Outdoor First Aid at Band 3

All Certificates issued are in electronic (PDF) format. They will be sent to the person (or organisation) that organised the Booking in order for them to be distributed to the student(s).

Whilst we try and maintain a fixed cost for our courses, our prices may be subject to an additional fuel charge if your location is a distance away from our nearest trainer to you.
There is a £50 supplement per day if that day is a Sunday or Bank Holiday.

Syllabus

Day 1 (Same as 8 hour Outdoor emergency First Aid course)

  •  Understand the scope of first aid in the outdoors.
  • Be able to interpret vital sign information whilst responding to an emergency incident in the outdoors.
  • Be able to assess an emergency incident in the outdoors.
  • Be able to respond to an incident involving an unresponsive casualty with normal breathing, in the outdoors.
  • Be able to respond to an incident involving an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally, in the outdoors.
  • Be able to respond to an incident involving a choking casualty in the outdoors.
  • Be able to respond to an incident involving blood loss in the outdoors.

Day 2

  • Be able to apply incident management and casualty assessment principles in the outdoors.
  • Be able to respond to an incident involving limb injury in the outdoors.
  • Be able to respond to an incident involving a casualty with a head, neck or torso injury in the outdoors.
  • Be able to respond to an incident involving medical conditions or sudden illness in the outdoors.
  • Be able to respond to an incident involving the effects of cold and heat in the outdoors.
  • Be able to respond to an incident involving activity or environmental factors in the outdoors.
