Summary: The 3-day First Aid at Work qualification (FAW) is ideal for most businesses whose risk assessment has identified that they require a fully trained First Aider for their workplace.

All courses are delivered, evaluated and quality assured to meet the new guidelines set out by the HSE in October 2013 and meet the requirements of the First Aid at Work (First Aid) regulations 1981 and subsequent changes. All our first aid courses fully meet the UK and European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2015.

Security Work

The SIA will accept this training certificate for those seeking employment in the door supervision and security guard sector.

This course encompasses the HSE First Aid at Work syllabus, including examination and is aimed at Employers where there is a Legal requirement for First Aid at Work. If you are unsure as to whether you need staff with this qualification, the HSE has published a Guide to Assessing First Aid at Work requirements. The actual Regulations can be found here.

Note that the pricing assumes that the course is run on consecutive days. There may be additional costs if the days are not consecutive

Share with the 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

If you don’t have enough staff to fill a FAW course but do have staff that need the 1-day EFAW they can attend day 1 of the course and get EFAW Certified.in parallel for no extra cost. The only restriction is that the total number of learners (EFAW + FAW) cannot exceed 12.

This option can apply to all versions of the FAW and FAW Requalification on courses run by 4 Minutes.

Reduced classroom time option

This course is also available from 4 Minutes as 6 hours online followed by just 2 classroom days. This is our ‘Blended’ option. Price is £1,100 plus £30 per person for the online part.

2-day Requalification if your Certificate is still in date

If you renew before your Certificate expires (proof needed when Booking) then you can take a reduced 12-hour FAW Requalification. Same syllabus, just over two days, not three. Price is £1,100 for a group of up to 12.

+F Forestry add-on

If you need the +F add-on to this Certificate this can be arranged for an additional £50 per course.

Whilst we try and maintain a fixed cost for our courses, our prices may be subject to an additional fuel charge if your location is a distance away from our nearest trainer to you.
There is a £50 supplement per day if that day is a Sunday or Bank Holiday.

Syllabus

Day 1 (also Emergency First Aid at Work syllabus)

  • The role of the first aider including:
    • – the importance of preventing cross infection
    • – the need for recording incidents and subsequent actions
    • – use of available first aid equipment
  • Legislation – first aid law including first aider litigation issues
  • Assessing any situation to act safely, promptly and effectively in any emergency
  • Unconscious casualty management including Epilepsy
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for a non-breathing casualty
  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator
  • Choking first aid for a casualty with a blocked airway
  • First aid for a casualty that has been injured and is bleeding
  • Life-threatening bleeds and the use of tourniquets
  • Shock (Hypovolaemic)
  • Minor injuries first aid for small cuts, grazes and bruises and small splinters
  • Minor burns and scalds

Days 2 (& 3 – if not Blended)

  • administer first aid to a casualty with:
    • injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries;
    • chest injuries;
    • burns and scalds;
    • eye injuries;
    • sudden poisoning;
    • anaphylactic shock;
  • recognise the presence of major illness (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes) and provide appropriate first aid.
